Love Your Body feat. Vedette Shapewear (Giveaway Coming Soon!)

Merry Christmas, everyone! And happy holidays! This isn't my Christmas outfit (I'll post that later) but it's an outfit I wore a few days ago. Remember during tights week when I wore all black and shared a beautiful piece from Vedette Shapewear? Well, this beautiful bustier that I incorporated into my outfit is courtesy of Vedette Shapewear's Sensuale line. And guess what? They're going to be sponsoring a giveaway for my blog and three of my lucky ladies will be winning a shapewear if their own (from Vedette's Basic line)! Stay tuned for more information! It'll be my first giveaway ever and I sure hope it opens doors for many more to come!

This post is dedicated to all the reason why I love my body and why you should to!

In the media, especially in fashion, there are so many factors that tackle a woman's self-esteem. Models are pin thin with chiseled faces and not an ounce of fat on them. Women and children flip through magazines defining beautiful as what they see on each and every page. It's true. Those models are beautiful but the beauty they possess doesn't make the one you have any less valuable. It may sound cliche, but beauty is only skin deep and it fades. The most beautiful thing about a woman is her confidence and that's not physical, it's an aura. You can sense a woman's confidence by the way she carries and presents herself. Confidence is beautiful, sexy and everything in between! So, ladies, embrace your inner beauty and let it shine through confidence!

Reasons To Love Your Body
-Love the skin you're in and others will, too: The more you honor and appreciate your body, the more likely it is you’ll attract positive, uplifting people into your life.
-Love your body, and it will love you back: There is a direct correlation between hating your body and retaining weight. If you’ve built an adversarial relationship with your body through negative thoughts and comments, then your body is less likely to cooperate with your attempts to lose weight or get healthy.
-Remember the 20% rule when you look in the mirror: You are 20 percent more beautiful to other people than to the woman you see in the mirror every day. Why? Because when you look at your reflection, all you see is your physical form. You’re looking for flaws. When others see you, they also take in your personality, style, intelligence, sex appeal and wit: the whole you.

Guess Who's Back?!

I'm back! And so happy to be back! This semester was one of the toughest for me. I learned a lot in terms of how not to manage my time and I will not make the same mistakes in the spring! But onward to the evolution of my style during my absence!

I have my hair in braids again!
The fashion show was amazing! and
Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of my outfits during my hiatus but I wish I did!

I've had to learn to layer and now I feel like I am a master of layering, which is incredibly important in Albany. The weather here is no joke... yet I continue to wear shorts and tights! I'll tell you my secret...

I always wear multiple pairs of tights in cold weather! That's my secret. I hate the cold so I would never [intentionally] sacrifice my warmth for the sake of my style. I love shorts and tights too much to give up the look just for the cold, so once the weather started dropping below 40 degrees, I started wearing two, sometimes three pairs of tights (or leggings underneath my tights.) People see me and think I'm cold, but that's only because they don't know my secret. ;) But if you don't know, you better ask somebody! Haha.

What I'm Wearing
Tan Linen Blazer: UK French Connection ($12)
Black Asymmetrical Button Down: H&M ($12)
Black and Cream Lace Corset: gift
Red Shorts: Old Navy thrifted ($2)
Dark Brown Belt: H&M (came with some pants)
Black Sweater Tights: H&M ($6)
Cream Oxfords: my sister's closet
TOTAL: $32

I'm going to dedicate a future post to layering and how to stay warm without sacrificing your style! Here's how I bundled up for the weather today:

I love layering my scarves. I actually inspired myself! I started with this outfit and ever since then, it's been my favorite cold-weather staple. Underneath my blazer, I added a thick, open cardigan and lastly, my wonderful gloves with fur cuffs.

To my surprise, I've gained many followers while I was away for almost two months! Thank you all so much for being patient with me and for supporting me even in my absence! It means so much to me! You're all so wonderful!

25 Good Reasons To Dress Up Everyday

(source: Tumblr)
Hello everyone! As much as I would love to say that I am back on the blogosphere, I am not. (Not just yet!) I am still on hiatus until my last final exam (two weeks from now!) However, I wanted to share with you all a list I stumbled upon while browsing Tumblr. Some people wonder how and/or why I "dress up" every day and I tell them it's for the same reason that they get dressed in the morning, "I can't leave naked, can I?" Reading this list, I found many of my actual answers to why I dress up every day and I hope you find some as well. (And if you are normally the one asking why, I hope you find a reason to in this list.)

So why dress up? Here are 25 good reasons

  1. Because life’s too short to blend in. Don’t settle for average.
  2. Because you’re only young once. You’re way more gorgeous than you know & have a fabulous body you’ll one day look back on and wish you had! Take advantage now and show off how fabulous you can be.
  3. Because fashion is a method of self expression. What are you trying to say?
  4. Because you never know who you’ll run into. Brad Pitt at the grocery store? Hey, stranger things have happened.
  5. Because it obviously annoys some people (like the guy who asks why YOU are so dressed up). The fact that it annoys them so much is all the more reason to keep doing it.
  6. Because you never know, there’s always a chance you could get snapped by The Sartorialist (or maybe the girls over at Street Spotted)!
  7. Because you deserve to look your best at all times.
  8. Because you’ll never improve your sense of style if your default look is “I give up”. Yes, that was a Seinfeld reference. But it’s true!
  9. Because dressing up helps you weed out friends who don’t love you for you. If they have a problem with the way you dress, they’re not the kind of friends you want around.
  10. Because cute clothes and accessories are a great conversation starter. Wear something fabulous and people will ask you where you got it.
  11. Because parties aren’t the only time to celebrate.
  12. Because that fabulous party dress in your closet cost too much to only be worn once. Remember cost per wear?
  13. Because it’s fun!
  14. Because even if you live in an “unstylish” city & are scared to dress up, cities don’t become stylish without someone going first. I know it sounds cheesy, but be the change you want to see in the world. Everyone else can follow your fabulous lead.
  15. Because dressing up helps you make fashion mistakes and get past them. Mistakes happen to everyone and that’s how you learn what not to do – get them out of the way now!
  16. Because it’s a test of your confidence. Dressing unconventionally forces you to develop the self-assurance necessary to stand out from everyone else.
  17. Because fashion is one of the rare instances where art comes alive. What artistic statement do you want to make?
  18. Because if you’ve got it (great style, killer confidence, amazing legs), it’s just wrong not to flaunt it.
  19. Because someday when you have a 9-5 corporate job and are required to wear business suits, you’re going to miss the freedom of dress you had in college. Experiment now! There’s no better time.
  20. Because glamour isn’t only reserved for the rich and famous, even though maybe they’d like you to believe it is.
  21. Because if conspiracy theorists are to be believed, the world might end on 12/31/2012 – that’s only 1211 days from now! Even though we all worried about Y2K too, why not be on the safe side? Don’t spend the theoretical 1211 days you have left in sweats.
  22. Because Carrie Bradshaw would not approve of your sweatpants and UGG boots. You can do better than that. And deep down, you know I’m right.
  23. Because dressing well means you don’t have to do your hair at all – you’ll have that ultra fabulous, slightly disheveled Kate Moss look.
  24. Because nothing beats the rush you feel when you look in the mirror and LOVE what you see.
  25. Because you want to. That’s the only reason that matters.

Which numbers stuck out to you?

Chocolate Laced: Hiatus!

(source: weheartit)

I should have made this post about a week ago, but I could never find time to actually do it! Hello everyone! I miss you all! I miss blogging and taking pictures so much but time and circumstance has not been on my side. As you all know, I'm in a very demanding major in school (Computer Science & Applied Mathematics) and as you can see from the picture I chose I have been studying. We all know that the word studying is comprised of two other words. The stu is thanks to the student that I am and the rest of the word, dying is pretty accurate.

What I would really love is if one of you lovely bloggers could do a guest post on my blog while I'm gone. Maybe even a reader who doesn't have a blog, but wants to take a stab at it! If you have any ideas or suggestions, I'm open to all of them! Just email me at chocolatelaced@gmail.com or stephanie.ukpere@gmail.com (or both) and let me know any ideas you have! I am also open to sponsors now! Any sponsorship opportunities that you may have you can bring to me as well! Don't forget to like Chocolate Laced on Facebook!

Chocolate Laced: Tights Week - Lace Tights!

Chocolate Laced is wearing lace! This is not the outfit I planned to wear. I had to change it up last minute because of some unfortunate events but I threw the scarves on to keep my promise of wearing pink every day this week.

I wore black [tights] again because it was supposed to rain, but, of course, it didn't (and hasn't yet.) Sigh. If the weatherman keeps lying to me, I'm going to start being my own weather person. I don't know how well that would work out though. With my luck, on the day I decide to go against the weather man and wear bright tights, it will rain cats and dogs and I'll be the most uncomfortable person on campus. I don't think I want to take that risk.

What I'm Wearing
Ornament Earrings: Forever 21 ($5)
Hot Pink Scraf: eBay ($3)
Floral Scarf: Wet Seal ($8)
Tan Linen Blazer: UK French Connection ($12)
White Sleeveless Button Up: H&M ($13)
Navy Bodycon Skirt: Forever 21 ($6)
White Skinny Belt: H&M (3 for $12; $4 ea.)
Black Lace Tights: H&M (gift)
White Leather Oxfords: Steve Madden ($17)
Pink & Tan Satchel: Thrifted (gift)
TOTAL: $68

I have a few announcements! I've created a Facebook Fan Page for Chocolate Laced! I've put a button on the left hand side of this page. Please, if you can, like the page! I appreciate all your support! Thank you everyone! Also, in the next couple of weeks I'm going to be opening my blog to sponsors and advertisements! If you are interested, please email me!

Chocolate Laced: Tights Week - Racing Stripes & Awareness

The weather man told me that it would rain tonight and there's nothing worse than wearing tights in the rain! Well, there is one thing worse! Wearing white in the rain! I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy! To combat the rain, I decided to throw on my "Racing Stripes" tights and combat boots. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the movie, Racing Stripes, it's about a zebra who believed he was a racehorse. Well, if it starts to rain, I'm going to believe I'm a racehorse, too, start running!

I've realized that in my last two outfits, I've somehow incorporated the color pink into them. I've decided that I will continue with this trend in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. I have my pink peeking through the holes of my sweater. :) I'm also carrying the pink bag I used on Monday!

What I'm Wearing
Red Raincoat: Charles River ($7 - eBay)
Necklace: Icing ($5)
Earrings: same as yesterday
Pink Ruffle Tank: Walmart ($5)
Black Destroyed Open-Knit Sweater: Material Girl for Macy's ($10)
Gray Suspender Shorts: eBay ($10)
Black Sheer Zebra Tights: Charlotte Russe (2 for $6; $3 ea.)
Black Legwarmers: CTS ($1)
Black Knee-High Combat Boots: Journey's ($40)
TOTAL: $81

I kept my jacket on for the majority of the day because the shorts do nothing for my backside. They aren't tight. I have lots of wiggle room in them, but the material they're made with and how they're made just doesn't do my booty justice! (I don't have much of one to begin with!)

I love that these tights came with a pair in cheetah print, too! I won't wear those this week though. I'll save them for later. Two more days left of tights week and I think both days are supposed to be rainy days. I sure hope it stays dry long enough for me to a)take my pictures for each post and b) not get drenched on my walking commute to and from school/work.

I want to give a special thanks to Ashley of Pretty Confused for giving me a great compliment! She said that I make wearing colors look easy and stylish! I'm blushing!

Chocolate Laced: Tights Week - It's E-leg-trifying!

You see what I did there? E-leg-trifying? Electrifying? Electric blue tights? You see it? Hehe. Last night, I was listening to "You're The One That I Want" from Grease and Danny thought Sandy's new look was electrifying. If only he could see these tights.

Yesterday's look was more of a classic one. Today, I felt like having a little more fun. I would have loved to wear heels with this outfit, but my friend and I planned to have a flash mob (of just the two of us!) dancing to Beyonce's Move Your Body on each of the campus dorm quads (and I didn't want to dance in heels, even though I'm very capable of doing so). Okay, maybe it's not much of a flash mob. I wish we knew more people who could do the dance with us! I have really fallen in love with this blazer. It has so much personality! I love that it's linen and that it pops and any outfit! I'm really getting a hang of this remixing items idea, and it's a good thing, too. In four weeks, I'm planning to do my first 30 for 30 Remixing Challenge! I know, I know. Four weeks! That's a lot of planning ahead. But I have themes for the next three weeks, too!

What I'm Wearing
Peacock Feather Earring: (my sister's closet)
Gold Square Stud Earring: H&M (4 for $3; <$1 ea.)
Hot Pink Scarf: eBay ($3)
Hot Pink Linen Blazer: Chaps (old gift)
Black Ruffle Corset: eBay ($3)
Black & White Floral Skirt: Forever 21 (gift)
Yellow Skinny Belt: H&M (3 for $12; $4 ea.)
Electric Blue Tights: Forever 21 ($5)
Black Suede Peep-toe Flats: Macy's (gift)
TOTAL: $16

Chocolate Laced: Tights Week - All Black [Almost] Everything feat. Vedette Shapewear

Hello, everyone! I feel like my posts have been abnormally prolonged, but I've come up with a solution for that! I've created a theme for every week (for the next four weeks) and I plan on sticking to them! I'll wear an outfit at least 5 days out of the week and blog each day about it!
This week is Tights Week!

Day one of Tights Week (oh, how I wish I had a catchier name for it!) is featuring the MARIAN style shapewear by Vedette Shapewear. I was spotlighted on their blog in August for my flattering outfit that gave me an illusion of hips (which we all know I lack)! A wonderful representative contacted me an offered me the honor of being Blogger Of The Month, giving me the great opportunity to style one shapewear, of my choice, into an outfit. There were so many wonderful pieces to choose from but the Spanish lace detail on the MARIAN was an automatic win for me.

What I'm Wearing
Black Sunglasses: Electric Tonette (gift)
Blush Pink Boyfriend Blazer: H&M ($11)
Black & Silver Detailed Top: c/o Vedette Shapewear
Flower Earrings: Forever 21 (gift)
Black Button Up Skirt: H&M ($7)
Black Tights: Charlotte Russe (2 for $6; $3 ea.)
Floral Pumps: Me Too from DSW ($32)
Pink & Tan Satchel: Victoria's Secret (thrifted gift!)
White Watch: Fossil (my sister's closet)
TOTAL: $53

I love what this shapewear does to my waist! I know I already have a small waist but it gives me the definition I lack, making the appearance of curves more apparent! I wish the effects were lasting! If I could take it off and still have this waist definition, all my dreams would have come true!

I am really excited for this week of tights and I hope you are, too!
