Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Whether you're spending it with the man or woman you love, your siblings, your parents, your friends, or yourself, remember that today is all about love! It might be hard, but after appearing happy, you'll start to feel happy!

I don't think I've ever been so festively dressed for a Valentine's day in my life--with the exception of primary school when those heart patterned henleys were all the rave--and I don't even have plans for tonight. I was stopped twice on my campus (by two different campus journalists) who correctly assumed that I was feeling the Valentine's Day spirit but incorrectly assumed that I had plans for the night. That made me giggle.

I was getting a lot of strange looks on campus today. I didn't see anyone looking at me because I don't pay much attention to people when I'm walking, but my friend was walking with me and she kept laughing because of it. She said it was probably because my tights were so close to my skin color that people were wondering why in the world I would leave my house in shorts and socks in 40 degree weather...

Little did they know that a) I have tights on and b) I'm sweating my butt off because of all my layers! I didn't take a picture of it but I'm wearing a sweater over my blazer, my infinity scarf and my cream hand warmers and I'm losing weight with every step I take!

Layering is wonderful and obviously deceiving. Look cold. Feel great!

New Look! Artwork by Mahodd Harvin

A few weeks ago, I contacted one of my artistically inclined friends and asked--what I thought was--a huge favor of him. I gave him 4 of my favorite outfit photos and asked if he was able to create a representation of them in the form of fashion design sketches. I was planning on using them for my new layout, which you can see live now: simplistic with a touch of class and "wow" factor, thanks to his exquisite drawings.

The first drawing I displayed you can find on my about me page in a super cool merged cartoon/human version I created. The second drawing is my profile picture on my Facebook Page. The third drawing I used in my banner. And I plan on using the fourth picture as my twitter background.

The coolest thing about these drawings is that my friend, Mahodd (muh-HAHD), drew all these images on his iPad. Now, that is talent!

Day Ten

I understand it's an irrational fear to have, but for some [not so] strange reason [to me], I feel like wearing plain with jeans and boots makes me look like a farmer. I've seen plenty of people do it and look great. Whenever I tried it though, I always tend to look like I belong in the fields riding a tractor and chewing on a stick of hay/straw. Sigh. But, for the sake of this challenge, I tried it out.

Fun Facts About This Outfit:
1) The plaid blouse has been sitting in my closet for a little over half a year. This is the first time I'm wearing it.

2) The denim jeggings I have on fit my thighs and below but it is about 2 sizes too big for my waist. My solution? I folded them down. Twice. You can see the fold peeking in a few of my pictures. I would've worn a belt, but they don't have belt loops.

3) At first I didn't know how to tackle this prompt to wear something I'm scared of wearing. Two of my friends suggested I wear jeans, a t-shirt, and sneakers and I freaked out at the thought. I don't know why, but I was so against it. I guess the one thing scarier than looking like a farmer is looking like I'm 12.

I'd love another job right about now. The hours are super flexible and I won't have to worry about not having time to study. *Keeps fingers crossed*

Day Five

I believe that fashion is the rule book and style is how you interpret them. Today, I let my prints fight for the spotlight. It turns out no one won, so they each got their share of the fame. Have you ever tried mixing prints? It's easiest when you don't mix a lot of busy prints and when you stay around the same color scheme. But there are many ways to mix prints! Floral and stripes are very popular. Leopard and stripes as well! Well in this outfit I gave you some hearts, stripes and plaid. If you check out my Outfits By Pattern search on my left sidebar, you'll see how I've worn my prints n' patterns in previous outfits and how I've mixed my prints! Some are very subtle looks white others (one, in particular) are BOLD and daring!

One of my favorite everything-bloggers has done it again! Kayla of Freckles In April is having another challenge. This past summer she did the 21 Day Challenge which I LOVED and now she's doing a 10 Day Challenge (a winter edition)! So of course, I have to participate because, for some reason, I come up with my favorite outfits when I have a prompt to follow. :)

Get this: This isn't the outfit I planned to wear today. I actually woke up an hour and a half late with only 20 minutes to get ready in order to make it to class on time and this is what I threw on. Scout's honor. I remembered the challenge after I left from home and it just so happened that I (kind of) subconsciously dressed for the first three days of the challenge, which is great because, technically, today is Day 3. I started late. Hehe.

The first three challenges are as follows:
Day 1: Layer It; Day 2: Monochrome; Day 3: Embrace A Trend

Well, since it's so cold, I layer everyday. It has become second nature. Like how I did it? All black (don't count the denim jacket!) is monochromatic! And the trend? Maxi dress in the winter? Can you say: yes, yes, and YES? YES! I did it, at least I think so. Bet you never killed three birds with one stone. ;)

Once again, my entire outfit is from H&M. This is exactly what happens when you work there! I haven't went shopping at any store aside from H&M and Plato's Closet in the past couple of months.

I love these wedges (and almost all wedges!) They're super comfortable and I need to invest in more! I wore this outfit to work, keeping true to my challenge of wearing heels to work when I don't work for too long.

Are Heels Really Made For Walking?

I have been challenging myself this month to wear heels on days when I only work 4 hours. Yes, it is four hours of standing with just a 15 minute break, but I tell myself and my friends that if I can stand in a pair of heels for 4 hours, then they're a darn good pair!

These booties, however, did not pass that test. They were super comfortable up until the beginning of the 3rd hour. I pulled through though. After work, I took the bus home and walked the half-a-mile journey from the bus stop to my house like a champion. And once I got home, I collapsed on my bed and kicked my feet up like the true winner that I am.

I've made changes! As you can see, I've made a great change to my blog: it's wider! And this allows for larger pictures, which I think is important! Don't you?

2011: The Best of Chocolate Laced | Happy New Year!

Outfit 1 was worn the day I got the job at H&M! I walked many miles in those heel and as comfortable as they are, I experienced my first blisters ever! Ouch!

The most classic feel and look of the year goes to: Outfit 2!

I will never forget the day Outfit 3 put me on the front page of Chictopia!

Outfit 4 was very reminiscent of Janelle Monae in the way I styled my hair and I loved it!

My first time ever getting thick braids and I debuted them with Outfit 5. Also strutted my stuff in my DIY off the shoulder cropped top!

My absolute favorite shoot was with Outfit 8. I had a wonderful time experimenting with poses and the weather was beautiful!

I wore Outfit 9 to my first Interview with H&M. I actually wasn't expecting an interview that day. They called me while I was at my summer camp job. Good thing I was still dressed to impress!

Outfit 10 is what I called "Neutral with a ROAR!" I loved it and it was very well received. I got over 700 notes on Tumblr thanks to this outfit.

Outfit 11: When DIY Goes Right!

Outfit 12 is my absolute favorite combination of 2011. Yes, I saved the best for last. Not only did the colors go wonderfully together, for my first time ever wearing shorts with tights, I did a great job in convincing myself that the style is worth trying! I also love how blue the sky is in all the pictures!

The most beautiful thing about a woman is her confidence and that's not physical, it's an aura. You can sense a woman's confidence by the way she carries and presents herself. Confidence is beautiful, sexy and everything in between! So, ladies, embrace your inner beauty and let it shine through confidence!

Guess Who's Back?!

I'm back! And so happy to be back! This semester was one of the toughest for me. I learned a lot in terms of how not to manage my time and I will not make the same mistakes in the spring! But onward to the evolution of my style during my absence!

I have my hair in braids again!
The fashion show was amazing! and
Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of my outfits during my hiatus but I wish I did!

I've had to learn to layer and now I feel like I am a master of layering, which is incredibly important in Albany. The weather here is no joke... yet I continue to wear shorts and tights! I'll tell you my secret...

I always wear multiple pairs of tights in cold weather! That's my secret. I hate the cold so I would never [intentionally] sacrifice my warmth for the sake of my style. I love shorts and tights too much to give up the look just for the cold, so once the weather started dropping below 40 degrees, I started wearing two, sometimes three pairs of tights (or leggings underneath my tights.) People see me and think I'm cold, but that's only because they don't know my secret. ;) But if you don't know, you better ask somebody! Haha.

I love layering my scarves. I actually inspired myself! I started with this outfit and ever since then, it's been my favorite cold-weather staple. Underneath my blazer, I added a thick, open cardigan and lastly, my wonderful gloves with fur cuffs.

To my surprise, I've gained many followers while I was away for almost two months! Thank you all so much for being patient with me and for supporting me even in my absence! It means so much to me! You're all so wonderful!

Hello everyone! As much as I would love to say that I am back on the blogosphere, I am not. (Not just yet!) I am still on hiatus until my last final exam (two weeks from now!) However, I wanted to share with you all a list I stumbled upon while browsing Tumblr. Some people wonder how and/or why I "dress up" every day and I tell them it's for the same reason that they get dressed in the morning, "I can't leave naked, can I?" Reading this list, I found many of my actual answers to why I dress up every day and I hope you find some as well. (And if you are normally the one asking why, I hope you find a reason to in this list.)

So why dress up? Here are 25 good reasons

Because life’s too short to blend in. Don’t settle for average.
Because you’re only young once. You’re way more gorgeous than you know & have a fabulous body you’ll one day look back on and wish you had! Take advantage now and show off how fabulous you can be.
Because fashion is a method of self expression. What are you trying to say?
Because you never know who you’ll run into. Brad Pitt at the grocery store? Hey, stranger things have happened.
Because it obviously annoys some people (like the guy who asks why YOU are so dressed up). The fact that it annoys them so much is all the more reason to keep doing it.
Because you never know, there’s always a chance you could get snapped by The Sartorialist (or maybe the girls over at Street Spotted)!
Because you deserve to look your best at all times.
Because you’ll never improve your sense of style if your default look is “I give up”. Yes, that was a Seinfeld reference. But it’s true!
Because dressing up helps you weed out friends who don’t love you for you. If they have a problem with the way you dress, they’re not the kind of friends you want around.
Because cute clothes and accessories are a great conversation starter. Wear something fabulous and people will ask you where you got it.
Because parties aren’t the only time to celebrate.

Because even if you live in an “unstylish” city & are scared to dress up, cities don’t become stylish without someone going first. I know it sounds cheesy, but be the change you want to see in the world. Everyone else can follow your fabulous lead.
Because dressing up helps you make fashion mistakes and get past them. Mistakes happen to everyone and that’s how you learn what not to do – get them out of the way now!

Because if you’ve got it (great style, killer confidence, amazing legs), it’s just wrong not to flaunt it.
Because someday when you have a 9-5 corporate job and are required to wear business suits, you’re going to miss the freedom of dress you had in college. Experiment now! There’s no better time.
Because glamour isn’t only reserved for the rich and famous, even though maybe they’d like you to believe it is.
Because if conspiracy theorists are to be believed, the world might end on 12/31/2012 – that’s only 1211 days from now! Even though we all worried about Y2K too, why not be on the safe side? Don’t spend the theoretical 1211 days you have left in sweats.
Because Carrie Bradshaw would not approve of your sweatpants and UGG boots. You can do better than that. And deep down, you know I’m right.
Because dressing well means you don’t have to do your hair at all – you’ll have that ultra fabulous, slightly disheveled Kate Moss look.
Because nothing beats the rush you feel when you look in the mirror and LOVE what you see.
Because you want to. That’s the only reason that matters.

Chocolate Laced: Hiatus!

I should have made this post about a week ago, but I could never find time to actually do it! Hello everyone! I miss you all! I miss blogging and taking pictures so much but time and circumstance has not been on my side. As you all know, I'm in a very demanding major in school (Computer Science & Applied Mathematics) and as you can see from the picture I chose I have been studying. We all know that the word studying is comprised of two other words. The stu is thanks to the student that I am and the rest of the word, dying is pretty accurate.

Chocolate Laced: Tights Week - Lace Tights!

Chocolate Laced is wearing lace! This is not the outfit I planned to wear. I had to change it up last minute because of some unfortunate events but I threw the scarves on to keep my promise of wearing pink every day this week.

I wore black [tights] again because it was supposed to rain, but, of course, it didn't (and hasn't yet.) Sigh. If the weatherman keeps lying to me, I'm going to start being my own weather person. I don't know how well that would work out though. With my luck, on the day I decide to go against the weather man and wear bright tights, it will rain cats and dogs and I'll be the most uncomfortable person on campus. I don't think I want to take that risk.

Chocolate Laced: Tights Week - Racing Stripes & Awareness

The weather man told me that it would rain tonight and there's nothing worse than wearing tights in the rain! Well, there is one thing worse! Wearing white in the rain! I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy! To combat the rain, I decided to throw on my "Racing Stripes" tights and combat boots. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the movie, Racing Stripes, it's about a zebra who believed he was a racehorse. Well, if it starts to rain, I'm going to believe I'm a racehorse, too, start running!

I've realized that in my last two outfits, I've somehow incorporated the color pink into them. I've decided that I will continue with this trend in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. I have my pink peeking through the holes of my sweater. :) I'm also carrying the pink bag I used on Monday!

I kept my jacket on for the majority of the day because the shorts do nothing for my backside. They aren't tight. I have lots of wiggle room in them, but the material they're made with and how they're made just doesn't do my booty justice! (I don't have much of one to begin with!)

I love that these tights came with a pair in cheetah print, too! I won't wear those this week though. I'll save them for later. Two more days left of tights week and I think both days are supposed to be rainy days. I sure hope it stays dry long enough for me to a)take my pictures for each post and b) not get drenched on my walking commute to and from school/work.

Chocolate Laced: Tights Week - It's E-leg-trifying!

You see what I did there? E-leg-trifying? Electrifying? Electric blue tights? You see it? Hehe. Last night, I was listening to "You're The One That I Want" from Grease and Danny thought Sandy's new look was electrifying. If only he could see these tights.

Yesterday's look was more of a classic one. Today, I felt like having a little more fun. I would have loved to wear heels with this outfit, but my friend and I planned to have a flash mob (of just the two of us!) dancing to Beyonce's Move Your Body on each of the campus dorm quads (and I didn't want to dance in heels, even though I'm very capable of doing so). Okay, maybe it's not much of a flash mob. I wish we knew more people who could do the dance with us! I have really fallen in love with this blazer. It has so much personality! I love that it's linen and that it pops and any outfit! I'm really getting a hang of this remixing items idea, and it's a good thing, too. In four weeks, I'm planning to do my first 30 for 30 Remixing Challenge! I know, I know. Four weeks! That's a lot of planning ahead. But I have themes for the next three weeks, too!

Chocolate Laced: Tights Week - All Black [Almost] Everything feat. Vedette Shapewear

Hello, everyone! I feel like my posts have been abnormally prolonged, but I've come up with a solution for that! I've created a theme for every week (for the next four weeks) and I plan on sticking to them! I'll wear an outfit at least 5 days out of the week and blog each day about it!
This week is Tights Week!

Day one of Tights Week (oh, how I wish I had a catchier name for it!) is featuring the MARIAN style shapewear by Vedette Shapewear. I was spotlighted on their blog in August for my flattering outfit that gave me an illusion of hips (which we all know I lack)! A wonderful representative contacted me an offered me the honor of being Blogger Of The Month, giving me the great opportunity to style one shapewear, of my choice, into an outfit. There were so many wonderful pieces to choose from but the Spanish lace detail on the MARIAN was an automatic win for me.

Chocolate Laced: BDIB - Animal Print

You wouldn't believe me if I said it, but I did not plan to do this Bloggers Do It Better (BDIB) challenge. It completely slipped my mind! But I loved my outfit today, so I asked one of my besties to take pictures for me! Different setting, see? I'm not on my deck, I'm on one of the campus' quads! And I just happened to be wearing an animal print! Yay! It all worked out!

School has been extremely stressful which is my reason for not posting as often as I want to. I'm trying my hardest to balance everything, but when you love one thing more than the other, you tend to put my heart and effort into that, right? Or is it just me?

Chocolate Laced: Beauty Comes First! Clarisonic Mia Review

Last month, I was contacted by a representative of Clarisonic inquiring if I would like to review one of their products. I had not heard about Clarisonic before, and just in case you haven't either, here's a little background about the company and its brand.

Clarisonic was developed by the inventor of the Sonicare toothbrush, which people are more familiar with. The Clarisonic Sonic Skin Cleansing System gently clears your pores and prepares your skin to better absorb skin care products. It is rechargeable and waterproof, which is amazing because you can use it in the shower and you never have to worry about replacing batteries! The Clarisonic is quick and effective; it only takes 60 seconds to cleanse your skin, making it as smooth and as healthy as ever!

I was sent a Clarisonic Mia to use and review. My initial thought when I researched the Clarisonic Mia was one of worry. It seemed like quite the investment! I realized that the only way for me to really know its value was to experience it for myself.

The Mia is so cute and compact, not only can you get it in your favorite color, you can easily bring it along with you on any trip! I commute to my college campus, but on the weekends that I decide to sleep over with my friends in their dorms, the Mia always comes with me!

Here's how my first experience was using the Clarisonic Mia :

My skin is a combination of normal, oily, and dry. It's quite frustrating. The oily parts of my face are my forehead, my nose, and, sometimes, my chin. The dry area is the space between my eyebrows and everywhere else is pretty normal. Before the Clarisonic Mia, I would simply wash my face with soap, paying the most attention to my problem areas.

My wake up in the morning face, complete with several breakouts on my forehead and cheeks. You can't see them very well in these pictures, but, trust me, they were there!

The first picture I posted is one of how the Mia is packaged and this is one of the contents of the box. I was sent the yellow Mia but it also comes in white, lavender, baby blue, pink, garnet, turquoise, poppy red, sapphire blue, tangerine and kelly green! What a great way to personalize something that you'll use every day!

The Mia is packaged with its magnetic charger. I think this is cool because it's easy to mess up a charger that plugs into a product. This charger simply clings on to the bottom on the Mia. Included are the instructions and a trial size tube of Clarisonic's Gentle Hydro Cleanser.

The instructions are very detailed and the Mia is very easy to use. It's recommended that you charge the Mia for 24 hours before your first use, but I was so excited, that I used it right out of the box! I did charge it for 24 hours before my next use though!

I began by wetting my face and the brush head with warm water and proceeded to apply a generous amount of the gentle cleanser to my face. (You can see how the magnetic charger clings on to the Mia in this picture!) The Mia automatically shuts off after 60 seconds, so, in circular motions, I scrubbed my forehead for 20 seconds, each cheek for 10 seconds, and my nose/chin area for 20 seconds.

Once the Mia turned off, I rinsed the cleanser from my face with a warm washcloth. There was an amazing tingly sensation all over my face which excited me because it seemed to be an instant display of the Mia working!

Along with a selection of colors, Clarisonic has a selection of brush heads. The Mia is prepackaged with the Sensitive Head Brush, which is what I've been using.

It has been a month since I began using the Mia and I could not be any happier! My face feels as smooth as a baby's bottom. I apologize for the cliché comparison, but it is so true! I barely break out--I've only had two minor pimples since using the Mia- but when I do they're gone in less than a week! My skin looks and feels better and it definitely absorbs my lotions a lot easier! I stopped using the gentle cleanser and replaced it with Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser for a deeper clean.

It's one thing for someone to compliment my outfit. It's something else for someone to compliment my skin! Ever since I've been using the Clarisonic Mia religiously, I've felt and looked a lot better. My skin has a glow that was hiding under all the filth that lurked in my pores! I've received so many compliments and my problem areas are no longer problems!

As frugal as I am, the Clarisonic Mia would not be something that I would put my eye on. But with an experience like this, I hope anyone who is adamant and determined to have clearer skin opts for the Clarisonic! This is one investment that you won't regret! I'm actually planning on buying my replacement heads very soon: a normal brush head and a deep pore brush head to combat my oily skin!

Chocolate Laced: Color Blocking Celebration!

Oh boy, oh boy! I really wish I had a way to celebrate this glorious moment! What glorious moment, you ask? Drum roll, please! *drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr* I, Stephanie of Chocolate Laced, after approximately 4 months of style blogging, have finally reached 100 followers (on GFC)! *Confetti* Yay! Thank you all so much! I wore this outfit yesterday, but it's such a happy bright outfit, I think it fits the mood of the celebration!

I walked half a mile in these heels and wore them to the two classes I had on Friday. I knew I couldn't stand to wear them through a nine-hour shift, so I changed into black floral flats later in the day for work. It wasn't until I got off from work that I saw the growth in my follower number! I would love to do a giveaway to thank you all! (But first, I have to find a sponsor/something to give away!)

Chocolate Laced: Miss Fashionista

"Miss Fashionista. I think that's what I'm going to call you now." One of my friends on the step team gave me this great compliment when she saw me today. I couldn't help but feel my cheeks flush a little bit. Me? A fashionista? I wish!

My followers on Tumblr actually helped me put this outfit together! I promised myself that I'd wear heels this whole week (with the exception of yesterday) in preparation for the fashion show! Yes, I made the cut! I believe it's the first of two cuts but I figured if I could make walking in heels second nature, then I'd have an advantage when it comes to walking. My heels of choice for today, my taupe wedge laced up booties. I needed help finding colors that complimented taupe. I got so many good ideas: turquoise, magenta, yellow, chambray, burgundy, and many others! I had so many ideas, but I needed something weather appropriate; unfortunately it rained today. I settled with this combination that my high school friend, Noor, came up with: Neutral based with a neon pop!

So far, I'm two days without wearing black! I'm going to try to keep it up. I love outfits that are black-less!

I've had my blog for almost four months now and I'm starting to see my remix skills come in handy! I've worn this blazer, this top, and these pants all in previous outfits with very different looks! That's a lesson that you can always come up with different outfits with what you have!

Chocolate Laced: Inspiration - Shorts In The Fall

I used to be completely opposed to wearing shorts after summer, but once I started viewing several fashion and style bloggers, I realized that it could be done! I met an incredibly fashionable young lady thanks to blogging and she inspired me to be inspired! Jacque has a personal style blog where she did her own rendition of this outfit that she loved from 4acesdate, a blog we mutually follow.

I loved the fact that Jacque recreated the outfit to fit her style! And I decided to do the same! I loved that I was able to stick with the same color scheme as the original outfit! My closet works wonders sometimes!

The 21 day challenge I did last month definitely taught me a lot of lessons about how to make an outfit stand out. I love that I'm starting to step out of the previous boundaries I had set for myself and explore new heights of fashion and style. I don't know what it is about this outfit, but I feel incredible confident and comfortable in it!

These tights that I'm wearing are amazingly warm. Combined with my two scarves, I felt warmer than ever in this 65 degree weather! Could this be considered color blocking? I love the combination of red and tan/camel. Stay tuned for future updates on my Colors page!

I love how omitting the color black can drastically change an outfit. I love wearing black but it's such a common neutral, I feel like people easily get lost in it. When I brought out this outfit last night, I came up with what I believe is a fantastic idea. I should give myself mini style challenges. Maybe once a week each month, I could frame my outfits around one concept. One week I could wear all dresses. Another week I could pick a certain color. If I'm feeling bold and creative, I can even choose one item to wear every day of the week! I really like that idea, but I'm going to need help from you all in creating that list of style prompts/rules/challenges! Can you help me?

Chocolate Laced: Night In Day

When I first saw this style of dress on the Zara website, I fell in love with it almost instantly. But I know I don't have Zara money, so when I was at work and I saw this dress, I knew I had to have it! It seems like more of a night time dress, but here's how I styled it for the daytime.

I tamed down my accessories because I honestly feel like the dress deserves to be the centerpiece of my outfit. I added my linen blazer, belted it and wore my strappy cork wedges to complete the look.

I chose to wear this dress because today is the day that I audition for a fashion show at my university! I'm super nervous and crazy excited at the same time. I don't want to mess this up! I love the way the high waist on the dress give me the illusion of longer legs! And heels double the effect! I'm 5'8" and change but with these wedges, I'm easily 6'1"! I'm towering over just about everyone I walk by.

I love wearing wedges but I've been in these babies since 8 in the morning! But don't worry, I brought a pair of flats to ease the strain! Wish me luck on the fashion show tryouts! I had to choose between these two shoes but I decided that I'd wear the Steve Madden glitter pumps! (The others are Jessica Simpson Trixie sandals.)

They're the easiest heels to walk in!

Chocolate Laced: Everybody Everywear - Colored Pants!

It feels like it's been so long since the last EBEW challenge, but I've been anticipating this one like no other! You wouldn't believe it, but I used to dislike obnoxiously colored pants with a fiery passion! What changed? I stopped looking at the people that wore them wrong! Trust me... it IS, in fact, possible to wear colored pants wrong. The first time I was exposed to someone wearing colored pants, she paired her hot pink jeans with a white studded rainbow belt, an ill-fitting neon tee (tucked in), matching hair extensions, and Nike Air Max sneakers. Not the greatest inspiration. Here's how I wore my bright yellow pants!

Another interesting fact: Two weeks ago, I had only two pairs of colored pants and they were both purple. Now I have two red, two purple, and one yellow! I don't include cargo, khaki pants or any neutral colored pants in the "colored pants" category. To me, colored pants are unconventional colors: red, pink, electric blue, yellow, etc.

Chocolate Laced: And Now You Look Like A Detective...

This was the outfit that I wanted to wear on the day of my last post, but the weather and I weren't exactly on the same page. I left the outfit on it's hanger waiting for the perfect day to wear it and then today arrived!

My sister helped me decided on the socks and shoes. It was between these babies and my oxford-like flats that I wore in this post. Once the outfit was complete she said, "And now you look like a detective." I think that's pretty accurate. All I need to complete the look is the hat and the magnifying glass! Hey! Fashion Rule-Makers! Guess what? I'm wearing brown and black together! I'm also wearing tweed, leopard, and stripes all at once! I guess you can call me a rebel of sorts. Haha. Take that!

Last night, I decided to make a business card that advertises all my amateur skills. It's never a bad idea to have one, you know? Maybe I could meet someone of importance and rather than spelling out all my information for them, I could simply hand them this pretty piece of paper.

Guess who's trying out for her university's fashion show on Wednesday with the 5.5" Jessica Simpson Trixie shoes? *thumbs to chest* This girl right here! I hope these shoes don't qualify as wedges! If they do, I think I might wear these babies from Charlotte Russe! They're only 5", but the heel is so thin, I feel like I'm flying when I walk in them! Wish me luck!

It's been raining so much during the last three days! Sigh. I took a few pictures in my room before my classes today and when I returned home the rain had stopped for a little, so I took some more outside. I'd easily say that my outfit is a reflection of my attitude towards this weather.

My shirt says "OMG WTF" and it makes me chuckle because those are my sentiments exactly! The outfit I had originally planned to wear is still sitting in my closet and she's just as sad as I am. I hope the sun comes out tomorrow so I can wear it then!

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 20 - Sunday Shoes

So, I'm not the biggest fan of this outfit, but check out my Sunday shoes! Black suede peep-toe flats! I would've worn heels if I hadn't been scheduled to work nine hours today.

Day 20: Your assignment for Saturday is to wear your Sunday shoes a little early. Wear them with jeans! Or shorts! Or skirts or whatever your little heart desires. Heels, wedges, nice flats, whatever. Let them taste what a weekday feels like.

I rarely wear these shoes on a non-Sunday because I don't know how to style them. Sigh. I said it. I really don't know how. I think they're cute and all, but maybe they're just not the direction I'm going in terms of style. They're very nifty to have though.

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 19 - Adorn Your Head

I didn't have anytime whatsoever to take outfit posts yesterday, so I threw on what I was wearing and took pictures this morning! That works, right?

Day 19: I already asked you to get creative with your hair but tomorrow I want you to take it a slightly different direction and put something on your head. You could go with a headband a la Blair Waldorf. Or perhaps a fedora? Maybe you've always wanted to try a fascinator. There's always a flower or clip or headscarf or turban. Totally up to you!

I received so many compliments and stares (which I took as silent compliments) as a result of my outfit. I wore it to school (I only had two classes) and later to work (we're allowed to wear head wear as long as it doesn't cover our eyes. While I was working the fitting room, one of our customers told me that I should be a runway model. I was so flattered!

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 18 - Statement Jewelry

I don't think I have many statement pieces, so I went digging in my sister's closet and pulled out a few of hers! I asked her first, of course. This outfit is a huge thanks to her wonderful taste.

Day 18: I love the proliferation of statement jewelry over the past couple years. A good chunky necklace or big pair of earrings can add so much to an otherwise plain outfit. So bust out that big piece of jewelry you've got lurking in your jewelry box (or maybe make a fun new piece?) and wear it with pride.

If I could name this outfit, I would call it "Neutral With A ROAR!" I love the plain cream/ivory colored palette underneath the necklace and cheetah blazer. I bought my top on sale from Old Navy because I loved how well it fit. It was marked $12 and I had a coupon for 30% off! I'm usually an Old Navy x-small, but I got it in a medium because the larger fit seemed more flattering in my eyes. However, when I went about reading the reviews, people didn't like the normal fit because the blouse is already made big. *shrug* To each her own I guess.

I've seemed to tone down my usual color choices in the past couple days. I love neutrals for fall! I know it's not technically fall yet, but I'm highly anticipating it!

As much as I love blogging, doing it daily is a lot for me to handle. Taking the pictures is easy. It never takes me more than 15 minutes. It's writing the posts and editing the pictures that take up most of my time. I do it all at once and it takes up a little over an hour. That would be fine if I didn't always get distracted and find myself browsing so many other blogs! Once this challenge is over (only 3 more days!) I'll still post frequently, just not every single day.

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 17 - Repair & Wear It!

So, maybe I was a little too ambitious with this challenge, but I guess I don't like to back out of things that I'm passionate about and that I love doing. So, I was initially going to skip this day because I didn't think I had anything that needed repairing and I got home at around 11:45 PM last night (with a 9:20 AM class the following/this morning). I thought it would've been too much to find something that needed to be repaired and then to actually repair it myself. I was right. It was too much. But I went on and did it anyway!

Day 17: Do you have a pile of shame too? That place where you stick clothes that need a new button/ hem fixed/ the sides taken in? Well, for tomorrow I want you to go dig through that repair pile, pick a deserving item, fix it and wear it. And then tell us about it, of course.

It turns out that before two weeks ago, I would not have had a single item to repair. I like to fix my clothes that I think are worth the fix as soon as I recognize the problem or just get rid of them if they're not worth it. However, in one of my recent thrifting trips, I picked up this dress because I liked the shape of it. I tried it on and loved the fit but I wasn't the hugest fan of the length. It stopped at about 3 inches above my ankle but my imagination saw how much potential the dress had and I promised myself I would take it to a tailor. I've yet to find a tailor, so I decided to take matters into my amateur hands and hand-sew the hem to shorten the dress.

It was too late when I realized that the hem job I did was too short, but I'm still comfortable in the dress. I didn't cut off any fabric; I'm actually holding the excess up inside the dress with some safety pins! I did this so that I could undo the hem and get it professionally done or redo it myself when I'm better friends with the sewing machine in my garage.

Oh, how I love this bag. It only poses one problem. It. Is. HEAVY! I feel like if I keep carrying it, my left arm will have a large muscle-builder look and my right arm will remain just as frail looking. I'm going to look into getting a locker on campus.

This is the first time I'm wearing a dress in so long! I've be wanting to wear one, but it never worked out the way I planned! Finally! Dresses are so freeing!

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 16 - Menswear

This bag and these shoes were exactly why I was so excited for this challenge! Aren't they divine?

Day 16: It's kind of fun to wear boy clothes sometimes. You can go all out with a tie and button up shirt or go subtle with a chunky watch and menswear inspired shoes or mix something masculine with something really feminine. You can even raid your significant other's closet if you want (I won't tell).

When I saw the shoes I fell in love with them. When I found them in my size I had my friends hold me up from fainting. The bag was like a gift from above. When my family moved into our current place of residence, this bag was one of the treasures that came with it. The previous owners left it in the garage along with other things. I've been eyeing the bag for the past four years that we've lived here and no one touched it (or even moved it!) so I took the liberty of giving such a worthy and beautifully structured bag a place in my closet.

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 14 & 15 - Inspiration and New Hairdo

Today is the first day of class! After losing power last night because of Hurricane Irene and being forced to wake up early, I woke up this morning in disbelief. This summer flew by! Having started this blog in the beginning of the summer, it puts it all into perspective for me. I've only had one class so far; my next one is at 4:15 PM. I'm currently in the library moving my head slower than usual and bumping to Micheal Jackson! Happy Birthday MJ!

Day 14: I want you to copy someone. Find an outfit that you loved on someone else and recreate it for yourself using stuff from your own closet. Make it work for your style and body type and make it your own.
Day 15: Your head has the power to make or break your outfit (AND your confidence) so tomorrow I want you to try something new with your hair and build your outfit around it. Try loose waves or a high bun or victory rolls or a crown braid or maybe a new hair accessory.

Hurricane Irene made it impossible for me to do an outfit post yesterday because 1) I didn't go anywhere and 2) I had no power (on and off, it was scary)! I was going to wear this outfit to church, but I just decided to combine it with my new hairdo today. And what better day to do both than on the first day of class when everyone looks extra spiffy! I was inspired to wear this outfit while browsing a Refinery29 article on how to wear neon colors without looking like traffic cone! This look is called "Neon in the Nude". This color is so bright I can't tell what it is! It's a tomato-y dark coral-like red! I'll just call it coral. I think that may be my color!

My hair! I saw the style on a Japanese girl and later on Lady Gaga and I promised myself that when I put long hair on my head, I would make a hair bow tie! It was SO difficult because the procedure for holding a hair bow made of heavy braids is so much different than making one with real hair. I got some help from a YouTube video and when that didn't work, I found what worked for me on my own! I'm just very careful as to how much vigor I put into moving around. It's certainly making me walk with a lot more grace. I absolutely love it! I also tied my belt in the style of a bow tie to compliment my hair!

Tomorrow's challenge is menswear! I could cry with excitement!

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 13 - Neutral...Pop!

So I was excited for today's challenge...that is until Hurricane Irene swooped down and destroyed all my pending plans. I'm gonna be home all day today (not including a brief trip to Walmart to stock up on some hurricane relief items...mostly food) and I didn't want to get all spiffy just to walk around the house. Le sigh.

Day 13: I love neutrals with a pop of color (in rooms as well as in clothes). It's classic but still kind of unexpected. Your pop can be anything...an accessory, a skirt, a lipcolor. Have fun with it!

What I was going to wear was a lot happier than this. I like happy outfits. But today, my melancholy outfit tells a story and it goes: In the midst of Irene's gray skies, all I really want is some sunlight! The end. How'd I do? Is there a bright future for me in the story writing business?

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 12 - Jazz Up Jeans

I've been looking and looking for ways that I could incorporate my remix item into another challenge day and, lo and behold, day 12 tells me to jazz up my jeans!

Day 12: I think it's fair to say that jeans are a staple for most people. They're comfortable, versatile, and come in a huge range of styles and price ranges. Odds are good that you A. own a pair of jeans and B. wear them constantly. The problem is that jeans go just as well with a frumpy t-shirt as a silk top or blazer and, in our casual culture, people tend to reach for the frumpy t-shirt first. So for I want you to bust out those jeans but jazz them up. Go fancy or rock and roll or office chic or whatever, but don't go frump.

One of the reasons that it's so hard for me to have a style definition is because I love just about everything! Especially menswear! A friend of mine is an extremely dapper fellow and his style is so on point that he was stopped in his tracks, photographed and interviewed for a publication in his university's paper about how fly he is! (He attends Howard U.) I am dedicating this outfit to him.

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 11 - Dress or Skirt

I really wanted to wear a dress today, but the dress I picked out wasn't as flattering as I would've liked thanks to the huge lunch and dinner that I ate yesterday! I hope get a chance to wear the dress for a later challenge. I think the dress for this skirt is an even exchange though. I love this skirt! It's just so... LOUD!

Day 11: I knew if I really wanted to stick with this fashion blogger thing I was going to have to embrace skirts and dresses in non-Church settings.

This skirt is comfortable, cute, and work friendly! Only thing is, I'm starting to think that pencil skirts are just not my thing. Maybe I could have styled this better, but I try to steer away from pieces that accentuate my invisible hips and booty. Maybe I'm just super self-conscious about it, but I felt like this skirt did just that! Is it just me? I really do love this skirt. Maybe I'll put a little more thought into the next outfit I wear with it.

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 10 - Closet Orphan

What's a closet orphan, you ask? It's that lonely, abandoned piece in your closet that wears itself because you don't let it see the light of day. I had to dig deeper than an investigator to find a closet orphan among my clothes. I feel like I give everything equal love! To fulfill this challenge, I dove into my closet to find the Annie of it all.

Day 10: I want you to reach deep into the recesses of your closet and find yourself a sad, lonely closet orphan in need of some love. Maybe you'll find something that you can move into regular rotation or maybe you'll discover that there was a reason the thing was a closet orphan in the first place and you'll finally put it in the Goodwill pile. Either way, I want you to wear that closet orphan with pride and build a fabulous outfit around it!

Is it a good or bad thing that it took me HOURS to find an in-season closet orphan?! Most of my clothes are new, so those I haven't worn are more like closet newborns. So, how's a graphic tee for a closet orphan? I have so many of them and I've worn a good number of them this summer (not this one though!) for camp, but I never reach for them to complete an outfit.

I helped my friend move into her dorm today (yes, in this outfit! It's very flexible!) and it dawned on me... Classes start on MONDAY! I'm going to be so busy, yet still finding time to blog because I love it so much! I hope I'm able to do everything I set out to do. I'd REALLY love a 4.0 this semester (and this year). I was able to pull it off my entire freshman year, but I went to a different university... a smaller one. Wish me luck!

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 9 - Monochrome

The last time I wore a monochromatic outfit, it was all black. I've never thought to wear only one color from head to toe. Neutrals are fairly simple to pull off, but to be daring and hop into a bold color and pull it off is highly unlikely. I decided to take the risk.

Day 9: There's something so organized about an outfit that's all one color. It brings me the same kind of joy my color organized closet does.

I had my outfit laid out on the bed before I wore it (and while I was typing up the first part of this post.) When my sister walked in and saw it, her eyes immediately widened. "It looks like one outfit [like they came together]!" She instantly knew it was for the monochrome challenge today. (I tell her about all of them).

Yea. I wore these sandals in my last outfit. It's okay to wear the same shoes twice, right? It's by complete chance that these shorts and this top are the same exact color. They are both very recent buys (the tags were still on before I wore them) and I had to take them outside in the sunlight to verify how similar their colors are.

I really love these shorts. I bought them from Plato's Closet and they fit wonderfully! Not too tight. Not too loose. Just right!

Breaking news! Did anyone else feel the earthquake today? It's epicenter was in Virginia, but it was felt all the way here in Albany, NY! I didn't feel it in my basement (where I was when it happened) but my parents were screaming upstairs about it and I ran up to see what was going on. Some items in the house were still shaking when I got upstairs. Crazy!

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Combining Days 7 & 8

Yesterday, I was unable to take pictures of my outfit because of the rain. Boo! So, what I decided to do today was, instead of put on yesterday's outfit and take pictures, combine the challenges for yesterday and today! Innovative? I think so? Against the rules? Not quite sure...

Day 7: Layered accessories add texture and interest. It's great for many outfits but particularly useful on plain-Jane jeans and tee days.
Day 8: For Monday, I want you to mix fancy and casual. Wear diamonds with your jeans. Wear a glittery skirt or dress with a casual shirt or vice versa.

I mixed fancy with casual by wearing my structured blazer with jeans. Simple, I know. I was in a rush to get to work and I didn't put much thought into this outfit. I still like it though!

For layering accesories, I wore two simple necklaces, one longer than the other, and on my wrist I wore three simple gold chain bracelets and a gold watch that my mother gave me. Now that I'm all caught up, a few orders of business that I'd like to discuss. First, I simplified my layout! It took me a while, but I'm glad I finished it in one day (and in one piece!) Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 6 - Unconventional

It's a scarf!

Day 6: I want you to think outside the box and wear something in an unconventional way. Wear a skirt as a dress or a shirt. Wrap a necklace around your wrist a and wear it as a bracelet. Use a men's tie as a belt. Do something cool with a scarf. It's up to you- be creative!

I must admit, I was completely stumped by this challenge. I had less than a handful of ideas, most of them my closet wouldn't allow me to do. This challenge asks us to step out of the box and wear an article of clothing as something other than what it's meant for. I tried two outfits priorto choosign this one and the creative wears I came up with for those gave me great ideas for future outfits!

I guess I did something cool with a scarf. I wrapped the scarf around myself and tied a very tight double knot in the front. I liked the way the scarf initially draped from the knot (see the first picture), but I decided to take the drapery and "stylishly" cover up the exposed.

Can we talk about my shoes for a minute? The style first: I LOVE wedges. "Man invented heels. Woman invented wedges." My friend said that to me and she couldn't be more right! Wedges are the flats of height! The most comfortable "heels" ever! Especially these. I bought them online, on sale, from Tilly's and for them to fit and feel the way they do (without any trying before buying), I'm completely satisfied. I walked around for hours in these babies and I could walk some more! These shoes were made for walking!

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 5 - Belt It

I smiled at this challenge because I've belted every day with the exception of the first. I was wondering if there was a way that I could do it differently, but my mind drew blank. I decided to just wear whatever and hope I could belt it.

Day 5:But belts are so wonderful! You can belt up high or go low-slung. Wide or thin or super skinny. Color! Texture! Belts add instant interest to an outfit and they go with just about everything.

I agree that belts add something to an outfit that you don't know is missing until you belt it. I love belts and I have a whole bunch of them that I barely get to use. My outfit today had a very powdery look to it and I also had to keep it work friendly. This skirt is just the right length for work. Any shorter and eyebrows would skyrocket.

I think the belt does a lot in making this outfit. It adds shape where the cardigan would've taken it away. It also covers the centimeter or two of midriff that was exposed between the crop top and the high waisted skirt.

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 4 - Color Block

One thing I dislike about the city I live in is the absolute lack of things to do. The fact that I don't drive also kills me. But, tonight, the former will change. I'm going to a party on a boat and I'm excited. I'd love to blog the outfit I picked out for it, but I don't want to bombard myself with multiple posts a day. *light bulb* I know! I'll insert a picture of it somewhere in my next post. Whew! Blogging everyday is a huge challenge! Speaking of challenges...

Day 4: Color blocking is a fancy term for large chunks of solid colors worn together. It's usually bright colors, but muted is really pretty too.

I spent all night cleaning my closet. I clean that thing all the time, but maybe if I did it more often, it wouldn't get so messy! Well, in the process of cleaning it (which I didn't finish by the way) I thought about this challenge and how I would color block my outfit. I adore color blocking. Whether you're color blocking contrasting colors, monochromatic colors, secondary colors, analogous colors, or whatever colors! I'm just a big, adoring fan. My approach to color blocking would have been all brights out, but I decided that since I've yet to color block with a neutral color, I'll do that instead.

I love having braids because I get to do all kinds of crazy things with my hair. I decided that I'd wrap it up in a turban and just let it hang. I really wanted to do a huge hair bow, but that needs a bit of practice! I currently have the ponytail wrapped into a bun to keep the hair out my face. I kinda like this style, too.

Okay, I know it's still pretty bright, but I wanted to save the mostly neutral color blocking for fall! Man, I can't wait until fall!

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 3 - Mix Prints

Mixing prints (the right way) will always have a special place in my heart.

Day 3: Some girls go at it with gusto while some hide in the corner, whimpering (that would be me). But you can do it, I promise!

I'd like to think that I'm one of those girls that go at it with gusto. I found these pants on the sale rack of H&M. How they got there is beyond me. I didn't try them on before I bought them, but I knew I needed them. They turned out to be slightly awkward (I love a challenge). I couldn't tell if they wanted to be worn high-waisted with a normal crotch or normally with a dropped crotch. So I kind of gave them the happy mid-waisted median.

I love how loud this outfit is! I mixed three patterns: The abstract pattern of my pants, the geometric/tribal print of my top and the subtle striped on my cuffed blazer! I think I did well.

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 2 - Tuck It In

I'm actually finding this 21 Day Challenge fun! Today started out on the colder side so I threw on a long sleeve. I wanted to wear a sweater, too, but I realized it would get hotter later in the day.

Day 2: For Tuesday, I am asking you to tuck. You can tuck anyway you want, but some part of your outfit must be tucked!

Here's my tuck!

Nothing too fancy about it. A simple front tuck. I just really love the colors of the outfit. This morning I went to Plato's Closet (again! Last time, I promise.) to sell my sister's shoes for BARELY any profit, and to use my $10 of $50 coupon. Sigh. You win some, you lose some. I feel like this outfit is a win though. Anyone agree?

Chocolate Laced: 21 Day Challenge - Day 1 - Remix

I actually decided that I would do this challenge this morning. I did all my research on it and I [hope] I'm ready to take this bull by its horns!

Day 1: Pick an item to remix during this challenge. It can be any article of clothing except a pair of jeans (sorry :) and you're going to wear it at least 3 times without repeating outfits. There's a bonus point in it for you if you can squeeze in a 4th time!
Today was my first day of work so I was more so dressing for work than for the challenge. After I was dressed, I decided that the item I would choose to remix over the next 21 days is this shirt. It fits nice and seems versatile enough to work with 3 or 4 more outfits.

My first day of work was great. I was only on for four hours, but it was a happy and fast paced four hours! I did a little bit of floor work, a little bit of stock room work, and a little bit of fitting room work. I also got a lot of compliments on my outfit (in and out of work). That's always nice.

Chocolate Laced: I'm A Thriftaholic!

This week has been the perfect definition and display of my thriftaholic ways. In the past six days, I went thrift shopping twice, Monday and today. I bought 22 items at about $6.05 each, making my grand total $133.19! I'm too excited for words, so here are pictures! I went to Goodwill on Monday and Plato's Closet and Clothes Mentor today. Best shopping trips ever!

So, first I did Goodwill on Monday. I arrived at the store 45 minutes before closing and I was worried that I wouldn't have enough time to find pieces that I loved. Boy, was I wrong (and glad)!

Here are my Goodwill finds:

I decided to tame my thriftaholism at that point. Haha.

Chocolate Laced: Inside My Closet Part II

Hello again! It's been about three weeks since my first Inside My Closet post and I think that's a long enough wait! I wanted to do this post earlier, but I was waiting on a couple orders to arrive and now that they are all here (drum roll, please) it's about time to introduce everyone to my second favorite part of my closet:

I love my shoes but I think I have way too many sneakers. I had a slight obsession with Converses, Vans, and Keds while in high school. I had many more but I've downsized and hope to downsize a little more for some more flats and heels!

I'm giving myself a year to two years to reach that goal. Does that seem reasonable enough?

Is 50 a lot? It sure doesn't seem like it. How many do you have (if you've counted)?

Chocolate Laced: Everybody Everywear - Florals & Stripes

I was super excited about this EBEW Challenge because I love mixing prints! It's one of the scariest fashion faux pas that I think should be dived into more often! Also, I enjoyed wearing this to camp and the kids loved it too! They all call me Miss U and I heard a lot of "Miss U! You look pretty!"

When mixing prints, I usually run to stripes and florals for two reasons: 1) It has never failed me and 2) they are my favorites! These are the same type of short that I wore in my previous post. Different pattern. These actually belong to my sister and I was overly anxious to borrow them because I love the print and they just look amazing.

Welcome to my Arm Party! *cue music* This is my first Bloggers Do It Better Challenge: Arm Party! If you saw my first closet preview post, you probably already know that I have the proper equipment for an off the hook arm party! Here's how I did it:

I knew that my outfit had to be camp friendly. "Camp friendly" means my shorts must be a reasonable fit and length, so I immediately pulled out these tailored shorts. They're very lightweight and can be worn high or low. I love pairing stripes with strappy sandals just for the artistic feel of it. As for how I chose my jewelry, I picked one item (the ladybug watch necklace) and worked around it.

Chocolate Laced: Interview Two

Earlier this week, I was called back for second interview with one of my beloved fashion companies for their sales advisor/associate position. I did my infamous happy dance and then began to mentally browse my closet for an outfit that may suit a second interview. After two attempts, I found that the third time really is the charm!

At first, I wanted to wear a teal halter collared top with purple pants and a beige/tan blazer, but I felt that it was too colorful for an interview and I had no idea what shoes to wear with it. Then I switched the purple pants for these high waisted knit harem pants and I knew the pants had to stay but the top didn't fit the way I wanted it to. I went into my closet and took a quick look around and viola! My outfit was born.

I'm not exactly sure what a second interview entails but I do hope I am more than prepared for it. Not only am I yearning to get this job, but it would be so convenient in terms of transportation. I don't know if I mentioned this in the first interview post, but it takes me an hour to get to my current job (I take the bus). If I were to get this position, it would only take me 20 minutes max! That excites me even more than I already am!

My mom bought my sister this blazer way before I was old enough to buy my own clothes. My sister didn't like it because of the highly unflattering fit, so she gave it to me. (Can you feel the love?) I have had this blazer for over 6 years and I didn't start wearing it comfortably until recently. I found this article on College Fashion that showed me how to easily adjust my blazer for a more flattering fit. Thank goodness for that article! I added both a ribbon and a giraffe broach to the back and now I can't get enough of this blazer.

See? A broach and a ribbon can make all the difference!

My interview is at 11:00 AM today and I'll be working from 3:00 PM to 9:30 PM after it (don't worry, I have a pair of flats to change into!) Once I get home, I'll edit this post to update you all on how it went! Wish me luck (again)!

[UPDATE]: I got the job! :D It's at H&M which may mean nothing to some people, but it's a big deal for me! Yay!

Chocolate Laced: Inside My Closet Part I

Hello everyone!

I've been MIA lately, I'm deeply sorry. There have been a plethora of outfits in the past week that I would have loved to blog about, but situations (like forgetting my laptop at work and having to work 11 hours in one day twice in the week) have not given me the opportunity to blog or even prepare a scheduled post.

A few days before my last post, I rearranged my closet (which happens to be a tiny extra room in my house; it's near my bedroom, too, so points for convenience!) and it was so clean and it looked so different that I had to take pictures of it! It wasn't until after I took the pictures that I decided I'd share it with all of you!

Box of Belts - I have over 30 belts. Most of them I don't used/haven't used. But I keep them rolled up and color coordinated in that box. Sometimes they get tangled. Sometimes I fix it.
Bags - Not super happy with my collection, I'm working on getting more colors and textures and getting rid of the pointless ones that remain.
DIY Jewelry Hangers - I got the idea from several websites and they both took about five to ten minutes max.
Shoes - Oh, I love shoes! Most of my flats are reaching retirement though.
Jewelry & Pants - Yeah, a weird combination, but I'll explain later.
New Stuff! - Yea, I leave them in their bags/boxes for about a week so I'm not tempted to wear them. I have so much stuff that I shouldn't be buying anything! But I hate to walk away from a good sale!
Clothes - Six drawers full
More Clothes - I have to double, triple, quadruple, (and so on) each hanger. So no hanger holds only one item.

I've decided to share my closet in different parts because it seems too big to share all in one post. So, this post is dedicated to the jewelry!

I used a picture frame and some plastic net-ish thing I found around the house to make the earring holder on the wall and I used cardboard, pins, and the fabric off an old pair of pants to make the necklace hanger. My bracelets and rings are stacked on a paper towel dispenser. The vintage container and porcelain container were found around my house.

Chocolate Laced: Interview!

Today I had an interview at one of my favorite places to shop! I don't want to jinx it, so I will refrain from mentioning the company's name. I will mention, however, that it is very fashion forward and since I stepped foot in there for the first time when I was 16, I knew that I wanted to work their at some point in life. Hopefully that point comes much sooner than later! Although the interview was a tad late notice, I thought my outfit made a good enough impression.

I was interviewed directly after my camp job, so yes, I did wear this to camp. I was completely comfortable and the sun hat did wonders for blocking the sun. I just wish my head wasn't so large! I don't have any wiggle room in the hat. It fits like a glove.

I usually don't post of work days because I get so tired after eight hours with kids but today had to be the exception because I'm so high-strung on gaining the interview!

Chocolate Laced: New Hair

The hairstyle I've been waiting for is finally on my head! Drum roll, please!

Four hours: the shortest amount of time that I've ever had to sit in a chair to get braids. The last time I got braids in my hair, I was visiting Nigeria, they were one TENTH the size of these and it took 21 hours to do! I am very please with the outcome. How do you like my new hair?

Chocolate Laced: Everybody Everywear - Mellow Yellow

I knew that I wouldn't have any time to do this during the week with camp, so I decided to wear my yellow a few days early. (That's not cheating, right? I'll still post this on Tuesday!) This is officially my first time participating in a Everybody Everywear style challenge. I found it while blog hopping and what a great find!

I brought the complimentary colors purple and yellow together with my head wrap and without looking like a Lakers fan (because I'm not!). My mother gave me the head wrap, which I chose to tie traditionally because a) I like it this way and b) it's the perfect go-to item when having a bad hair day! I'm getting my hair done on Saturday, so this entire week, my hair will be wrapped up because I don't feel like doing anything to it. My next outfit post will hopefully be on Sunday with my new 'do!

I love how the color yellow makes my skin glow!

This top was so troublesome. It's extremely short in the torso because it's a 4 in petites. I've had it since I was in high school, maybe even before then. I like the color but I despise the fit. This skirt made the shirt work, though. It may be a little tighter than I'd normally wear, but the skirt gave my body a shape that I rarely see! Are those hips?! (Just nod your head slowly and agree with me...)

I bought the skirt from Plato's Closet and I was lucky because as I cashed out, the chasier told me that she had JUST put it out that same day. :) Lucky me!

I bought the bangle and the cuff that I'm wearing on Saturday. I was walking home and a neighbor was having a HUGE jewelry yard sale. Beautiful pieces but I liked the simplicity (and the price!) of these two.

Chocolate Laced: Midi, Lace & Leopard

This week has been incredibly hectic for me. I've immersed myself in camp work to the point where I barely have time for anything else! I'm as energetic as the energizer bunny while at camp but once I step into my house, every last bit of energy that I have is used to walk me over to my bed. Today, I decided that I needed to get things done! I finally got to shipping the items that I sold on eBay. I made an appointment to get my hair done next Saturday and I bought a hot/neon pink dolman sleeved crop top that I thought would go well as my neon + neutral look. It was on sale for $10 at sears and the fit was too cute to boot.

In an attempt to try something new, I threw on this colbat blue midi skirt that I bought new from eBay, the striped cream lace and gray tank that I got as a birthday gift, and the leopard bow belt that I bought on sale from ASOS. This outfit was worn solely for the sake of comfortability and boy, was I comfy.

Chocolate Laced: Planning Ahead

I just ran outside (that's the front of my house) and took a few quick pictures of my outfit today because I realized that the six weeks to come will be very lacking in terms of posts. I'll have to be up at the crack of dawn to get to camp (which I won't be looking fabulous for) and some days I'll have to go to my other job directly after. I'm hoping that I can make up for lost time by putting up outfit posts on the weekends, if I leave my house to do anything at all. Tomorrow is the first day of camp and we were instructed to dress business casual for the first impression.

Chocolate Laced: Ready, Set, CAMP!

Today , I had a meeting for my summer camp that starts on Tuesday. I'm so excited, it's far from funny. Some might see it as sad but I didn't ask the opinions of "some". I LOVE kids (granted that I can return them after a certain time of day) and they are absolutely precious to me (when they're not crying). Summer camp is a six week program. Monday to Friday. 8 AM to 5 PM. The longest 30 days of the year but also the most fun by far. Summer camp also means my chic level will drop about 10 points below what it is now. Yup. No skirts. No dresses. No pants (it gets hot!) No jeans (see "no pants"). Just shorts. Shorts. Shorts. And more shorts. And the same shirt...every day. Won't that be joyful? Until then, I'll let my chic shine.

Speaking of shining, the SUN was NOT playing any games today. Nine in the morning when I stepped out the house, I was attacked by ravenous rays of sunlight bringing my skin to a temperature that could have whipped up a fine meal of eggs sunny side up. No joke. I hate wearing gray in the summer but I cannot say no to this top! I also tried something different with my hair. pinned it up in a 'do inspired by Janelle Monae. My hair is nowhere as long as hers but I worked with what I have!

In the time that I did have, I've been browsing many other bloggers' sites, writing up my closet inventory (which is quite extensive) and shopping. I love shopping, but it will be the death of me.

Yesterday, I tried something new. Because of my early morning plans (11 in the morning is early to me) I decided that I should try taking my outfit pictures even earlier than that. Closeup on Accessories

I love the colors of this outfit and I love how it makes me feel. The only thing about it that slightly bothered me was it accentuated my lack of hips. [Almost] everyone has something about their body that they wish they could change. Mine used to be my hips. If they were just 2 (maybe 3) inches wider, all my bottoms would fit the way they should. Especially my jeans!

I recently joined Independent Fashion Bloggers and received a load of welcoming messages before I logged on! I found that most of these were spam but the select few were actually bloggers with really cool blogs. Networking is always nice.

Chocolate Laced: More Than Just A Hobby...

Today, I brought my friend, Adela, along while I took pictures to put up here. She liked how my pictures came out--the ones that I shared on Facebook--and she was eager to have some pictures of her own. Of course, she was very inquisitive of why I do it and she initially thought I do it because I'm bored. I had to laugh and let her know that I really love blogging: taking the pictures, developing my style, learning, and overall just feeling good in what I'm wearing!

It turned out that Adela was actually great (superb, even) at directing my pseudo photo shoot. Most of these pictures are the way they are because of her!

I really love these shorts that I have on. They are simple yet chic! The only problem I have with shorts is they never fail to ride up! I may have to invest in some invisible tape to keep these babies down! Either that or find some longer shorts. Hehe.

Adela was wearing a really nice bag and I really wanted to take it and run, but she knows where I live. The pattern was really nice and I couldn't help but admire it!

I've only been at it for two weeks but blogging has become more than just a hobby to me.

Chocolate Laced: Tailor Made

One of my favorite things about traditional Nigerian clothing is that they are (more often than not) tailor made. This guarentees the most flattering fit (depending on your desired style and design). On Saturday, I was part of my aunt and uncle's 25th anniversary celebration in NYC wearing the aso ebi that they picked out. I chose the dress design I wanted after searching online for hours and I showed it to the woman who was going to create it from the material my mom gave her. I knew I would need really high heels to compliment the length of the dress, so my sister bought me these babies from Charlotte Russe:

Stunning black velvet platform stilleto heeled pumps that were a breeze to walk in but a pain to keep on for 6+ hours! I got many compliments form the other aso ebi girls on my height (an added five inches to my already 5'8" and change height) and on my dress which was sweet and simple yet dramatic. I had a great time at the party and I was joined by my Panamanian best friend Desiree of six years who, wholeheartedly, supports and loves my culture and its traditions. She was rocking her African attire from Mali with a wrap skirt (a gift to her from her brother's godmother):

We live 170+ miles apart but our friendship grows stronger every day.

One: I made a new banner for my blog! Isn't it lovely? I also changed the colors around a bit and just tried my best to make everything aesthetically pleasing.

Two: I'm wearing pants. Until recently, I had only one pair of pants in my closet and they were my black church slacks. Now I have nine! (One of my future posts will be a wardrobe inventory! Be prepared!)

Chocolate Laced: When You're Good To Karma, She's Good To You!

On my way to Goodwill for some handy dandy thrift shopping, I stopped at a corner store to get a Mango Madness Snapple. The man in front of me, a very handsome Caucasian with light eyes, massive muscles and tattoos had to give the clerk $0.50 to complete his purchase. "I got you on the fifty cents, sir." And he said he'd be right back to get it, but I said to him that i had two dollars. My drink was $1.50. I was gonna get the change back anyway, so he obliged. Then he flashed his pearly whites (they really were!) at me and thanked me and hoped he'd see me around to pay me back. It was really sweet.

So as I went about my day, it seemed that everything was just a little rosier. I got one very obscene compliment on my outfit from a man with exceptional vulgarity in his language. I want to repeat his exact wards because that is really the only way that I can display how radical they were. He said, "You are f***ing that s**t up!" With so much enthusiasm! I instantly showed a slight hint of fear in my face and he elaborated that he loved the print, my hair, and the flower and it was so different. I laughed it off and thanked him. It was truly hilarious. I'm glad I had my friend with me to witness this.

They are ALL ON SALE right this instant and if I was a rich girl (briefly sings Gwen Stefani) I would be all over these in the blink of an eye! Yesterday when I made this, the chiffon skirt was $8. Today it's $5! *buys*

Hopefully I can get everything! And if not the exact thing on the list, then an item that's dangerously close!

Chocolate Laced: Mama Africa

In my last post, I mentioned getting some material from my mother that I would incorporate into my future outfits. Today was my first successful attempt at doing so. After going to church this morning, I had to meet up with my staff for this summer's camp to discuss how much smoother we plan on running things. It just so happens that my staff is like my family. We are tighter than skinny jeans, we are. It's awesome.

So my best friend, Maya came to pick me up at 4 to take me to this meeting and when I stepped out the house in this and opened the passenger door to her car, she said to me, "Okay, Mama Africa! I'm loving it: the fact that you look all fabulous and I'm here dressed like a bum." She didn't really look like a bum, she's just super dramatic.

I wrapped my hair in one of the materials my mom gave me. I didn't really have a set design in mind when tying it, but it took my three trails before I found this design and I really love it. It has a hint of Nigeria in the way it takes the shape of our traditional gele and it also has the Nefertiti/Badu height I was aiming for.

I paired the look with natural makeup: concealer for my less confident areas, light foundation for an even tone and subtle cat eye to waken these tired eyes. Did it work?

The solid black maxi is something I feel everyone should have. It can be worn so many different ways; I absolutely love it. I've been looking for a way that I could maybe hike it up a bit and wear it as a more modest LBD. Everything is possible as long as you believe!

Chocolate Laced: It's All About Tribal!

And I'm not just referring to the awesome print of my skirt! I'm talking hertiage. Ethnicity. Nationality. Tribe. I am very intrigued by culture. It's just so...fascinating! I am Nigerian (of the Igbo tribe). I was born in Nigeria and I came to America when I was four. I love everything about my culture. From the language (which I must learn to speak. It is never too late!) to the clothing, to the food, to everything else in between.

Today, my sister told my mother about this blog and she was actually a lot more supportive and excited about it than I expected! (Score!) I had asked her for a few wrappers so that I could incorporate them into some of my outfits and she brought me three different ones with the most beautiful prints. Boy, I cannot wait to feature them in a culturally inspired outfit! She also gave me an exquisite scarf. I have no idea where she bought it from, but it is RIGHT up my alley. Now, on to today's outfit:
